The Wii on the Way Out & Another to Take Its Place?

Over the last week, the Wii has been rumored to be heading on its way off the market. With all of the major first-party titles released on the Wii, this wouldn’t shock me. What shocks me is how quickly it might be moving out. Could Project Cafe be here by the holiday 2011 or early 2012?

Last week according to CVG, a trusted source has said that Nintendo will cut the price of the Wii to May 15. With this announcement, Best Buy responded online by lowering the price temporarily to $169.99.Of course, Nintendo dodged the question when Nintendo of America’s President Reggie Fils-Aime replied to a few questions from CVG:

The Wii has a long life in front of it. We’re still sitting at $199. There are a variety of marketing tools at our disposal.

Perhaps, there are a few more things Nintendo has up its sleeve for the motion-controlled console. According to this private trusted source, Nintendo will announce what is being called Project Cafe. What do you think the odds are that this is true? G4TV believes there is a 35% chance this is true. Is it too soon for another console this generation?

What will be the new console's name?

Usually by now, the three top gaming companies: Sony, Microsoft & Nintendo would have announced or released their new console. With the international recession, these corporations have said that they aren’t going to rush for a new console in the last three to five years.

With the drop of sales in the Wii, is Nintendo going to pull out their trump card that they’ve been waiting to use for the last few years? I believe Nintendo will announce a new console by TGS 2011. When will it release? Probably early summer 2012. What are your thoughts? Leave a comment below saying when you think Nintendo will make their announcement about the new console and when that console will be released.
