Katrina PoP!

Katrina was the PoP! Fangirl of September 2009

The lovely and multi-talented Katrina Hill, aka Action Flick Chick, was our December Gamette for 2010 and one of our finalists in our Gamette of the Year contest this past year and is just an all around bad ass when it comes to nerdery and action movies.

I’m telling you all of this in case you somehow forgot.

Katrina is currently in the running for panelsonpages.com PoP! Fangirl of the Year and we’d be absolutely overjoyed if our readers would go and vote for Katrina and show her some BG love.

You can register here, vote here, and check out Katrina’s interview with PoP! here.

We know from personal experience that a lot of you aren’t fans of registering on websites in order to comment or vote but just take the extra time to do it this time so I won’t have to hunt you down and make you watch “Prayer of the Rollerboys”.

And I’ll do it, too.

Gamette of the Year 2010: And our winner is…

Jade - Gamette of the Year 2010

It’s been three years since the launch of our site and we’ve announced two Gamettes as our Gamette of the Year and now, once again, it’s time to do it for the past year, 2010.

We saw a lot of you coming to the site and supporting your favorite Gamette and we’d like to thank all of you for showing some geek love during the past month. We’d also like to take the time to thank each and every one of the girls for their good sportsmanship and the support they showed one another. We’re lucky to have met each and every one of you and it’s been a real pleasure working with you all.

Without further ado, however, I’d like to introduce you to our Gamette of the Year 2010, Jade!

Jade was our November Gamette as well as one of the final contenders to be on WCG’s Ultimate Gamer on the SyFy channel and is one of the many talented and beautiful ladies from Charisma +2. Hailing from Georgia, the lovely Jade is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to games like Black Ops and Halo: Reach and we have no doubt that when the third season of Ultimate Gamer rolls around, she’ll be back to show up the competition.

And while we still have your attention…

Katrina Hill - Our 1st and very awesome runner up!

The end of the contest saw some of the most frantic voting throughout the entire event and we’d be remiss if we didn’t show recognition to Katrina Hill, aka Action Flick Chick, and the rally she put together over the past week. Katrina is not the type of girl to sit through a “chick flick”. She’d rather see Bruce Willis at his worst, shooting up the set, than watch a romantic comedy. If you haven’t been to her site to be kicked in the ass, we’d highly recommend it.

We can’t say enough about our lovely Gamettes. They’re all beautiful women who have taken the time to share their geeky sides with us and show us that the world of nerd isn’t just for boys any more. Each of the ladies deserve to be recognized and it is our humble pleasure to introduce them all to you. If you haven’t said thank you to the nearest geek girl in your life, you should take the time to do so now.

Thank you all for visiting and supporting the ladies and another big thank you to the Gamettes for their participation and the time they took out of their busy schedules to be a part of our site.

Stay tuned. We’ve got more in store for our loyal readers.

Action Flick Chick’s Blog up for an Award

Monday, December 13th, 2010

Welcome AFC with a bang and go vote for her blog on TheMovie411's Blog Awards.

Looks like we aren’t the only site to hold our voting in December…

Our December Gamette and all around lady filled with awesome-y goodness, Katrina Hill (Action Flick Chick) was nominated for TheMovie411′s Best Action Blog Award 2010 and succeeded  in making it to the top 5 finalists in the Best Action Blog 2010 category, a fact that doesn’t surprise us one bit. Having just found out about the contest, we’re a little late to make the announcement but we’d like our readers to head on over to the site and show AFC some BG love by voting for her blog.

The voting ends on December 14th and the winners will be announced on December 16th so you’ve only got two days to make your votes count! So what are you waiting for? Go vote! We’ll be here when you’re done…

Seriously, go vote. I’ll wait right here…

Gamette Katrina Hill aka Action Flick Chick

Katrina Hill by Jim Brown

Katrina Hill by Jim Brown

We love our movies as much as we love our video games. Since the inception of the site, we’ve tried to show that there are ladies out there with as much love for the geek subculture as any guy might have for it. With one peek at her site, it’s easy to see that Katrina Hill (aka Action Flick Chick) might give us a run for our money when it comes to movies, especially the action genre (ya know, in case you didn’t pick up on that from her nickname).

So when someone suggested that AFC should be a Gamette, it seemed like the only thing to do was see if she was interested and try setting something up. Kat agreed and now you can all see for yourselves that there are women out there who’d rather split some popcorn with you while watching kung fu and explosions on the big screen rather than some dumb movie about a love story that happens on some doomed boat. Hint: It hits an iceberg and sinks.

It is our honor and pleasure to present the original Action Flick Chick, Katrina Hill, as our first December Gamette. By the end of the pictorial, in her own words, you’ll have been kicked in the ass by Action Flick Chick.

You get to pick which apocalypse you’re a survivor of: Zombie, Nuclear, or Fuzzy Kitten. Now tell us why you’d prefer that particular apocalypse, unless it’s the Fuzzy Kitten one at which point we’re going to have to demand you turn in your License to Kick Ass.
Hey! DO NOT underestimate the power of an army of fuzzy kittens! They are only cute for a second…right before they laugh and scratch out your eyes. And, I dare you to try to take my License to Kick Ass. You will have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers .

Why is Tremors your favorite movie?

Tremors has everything: Action, horror, suspense, the film is really funny, has loveable characters, great cast, no CGI, those are real Graboids, and it’s a fun concept. There is a lot of nostalgia attached to Tremors for me as well. I’ve been watching it since I was little. My brothers and I would have the best time jumping around on the living room furniture so that we didn’t get eaten by the Graboids!

Who wins in a fist fight, Corbin Dallas or John McClane?
John McClane! He has been in at least 4 large scale terrorist situations and has taken them down each time. McClane also has more experience with fist fights than Corbin Dallas, who tended to stick with guns. I mean, McClane had to fist-fight Maggie Q! Yeowch!

What one big thing or combination of little things can kill an action movie?
Ridiculous looking CGI.

You’re playing yourself in an action movie. Who’s your leading man and why? I know it’s tempting to say me with my mental flirting but let’s give the other guys a shot.
Well, if I can’t choose you, then I’ll go with Tony Jaa. Wait, Sylvester Stallone…No! Jason Statham! Bruce Willis! Hell, I want them all in my movie!

The Screen Team just made my Monday morning better…

Monday, August 9th, 2010

It’s a fact that I’m not a fan of Monday mornings. Hell, I’m not a fan of mornings period but I hold a special dislike in my Grinch heart for Mondays. To make matters worse, today I chose to wear a red shirt and my day is going in such a way that I’m fairly certain someone is going to call me Ensign Ricky and promptly send me on a suicide mission… It’s just been one of those days/weekends.

Thus, it may be something of a surprise to those who know of my morning intolerance that I’m feeling much chipper this morning thanks to the Screen Team guys. The video above is another fine parody from our good humored ladies and gentlemen over there and it makes a Monday morning tolerable. Of course, any parody that includes “Nerdy Pictures??? of lovely ladies is always a plus in the Busy Gamer book.

I’m going to admit this and probably regret it, but I initially clicked the link from my email and let it run in the background thinking to hear the parody while I attended to other duties. The song is a parody of Ke$ha’s “Dirty Picture??? and I chuckled as it ran and switched over to the window just in time to see Action Flick Chick doing a little dance. It’s official. I heart her. I will now begin the Klingon courting ritual with her which in our human culture begins with a mild misunderstanding and a hastily filed restraining order… What’s the Klingon phrase for “Please don’t spray that mace in my eyes???? You know, just in case.

Of course, if some sexy ladies taking nerdy pictures of themselves in school girl outfits and Gryffindor and Super Girl t-shirts isn’t your thing, you might want to avoid this video. However, if you do avoid it and you’re male, we will have to confiscate your Man Club membership card and sign you up for quilting lessons.
