That time of year has rolled around once again. While you’re out shopping for stupid things like gifts for your family, we here at Busy Gamer are hard at work making certain another year of lovely geek ladies is all lined up for our readers. We’re also setting up our Annual Busy Gamer Gamette of the Year contest.
We’ve seen a lot of lovely nerd girls grace our site this year and it’s time to see who our readers want to represent the Gamettes for 2011. We’re certain you all have your favorites and now it’s time to show it. It’s hard to believe we’ll be crowning our third lovely lady this year and we’re going to give you the chance to be a part of it.
The rules and contest length will be a bit different from the previous two years. To begin, the contest will run from 12:01AM CST December 15th, 2010 till 11:59PM CST January 15th, 2011. And this time out, we won’t be limiting our readers to one vote for the entire contest… you’ll be able to vote for your favorite lovely lady once a week, every week for the entire length of the contest.
We’ll still be reviewing the votes for anything hinky so don’t go getting any ideas about how you might rig the contest for your favorite Gamette. If we learned anything from Red Dead Redemption, it was how to keep it honest. Fortunately for our readers (and most likely ourselves), we haven’t been able to procure a six shooter. We applaud your enthusiasm but by keeping the contest honest, we’ll applaud your enthusiasm *and* your honesty.
The list this year is a bit shorter than in years’ past and some of you have mentioned it. Unfortunately, we had scheduling conflicts and a number of false starts on our part over the past year. Don’t worry, though… we’ll be making up for it in the coming year and we know you’ll be able to forgive us once we do. As always, we’ll be looking high and low for the ladies who love us and all the things that make us geeks.

Deathwish Dena - October Gamette 2010
It’s only fair to warn our readers that most of our Gamettes could likely kick your ass. It might be at video games or comic book knowledge but it’s a fair bet that they all have the goods when it comes to getting down and nerdy. It’s also a fair bet that October’s Gamette, Deathwish Dena, could not only out-trivia you in the horror movie genre but would probably put a beatdown on you if you were to take her on while wearing roller skates.
Dena is the kind of girl who can dress sexy one minute and then take to the ring with her skates to put a hip check on you that would have you wondering which way was up. Schooled in the nuances of old school NES gaming, a love of Steampunk, and with a healthy amount of knowledge in regards to the Caped Crusader, Dena is just the type of Gamette we all love to see grace our page.
And so, without further ado, say hello to the sexy skater known as Deathwish Dena.
Tell us why you’re awesome in twenty words or less.
I am the perfect mixture of horror, combat, and fantasy with hours of enticing game play.
Who’s the hottest Batman? Keep in mind we haven’t dressed up as Batman (yet) so the obvious answer is right out.
Well I guess since you have yet to be unmasked as the next Bruce Wayne. For now I will have to go with Christian Bale minus the I am trying to hid who I really am grunt whispers. If he is bringing that to the bedroom I am leaving in a fit of laughter.
You get to be any character *but* Batman. Villain, sidekick, or hero, from the comics or the various movies. Who is it and why?
Two-face. He is human and monster. I love that he can be totally nuts and want to see something get completely destroyed enjoying every minute of it but shed a tear over a lover or friend. Also he goes hand in hand with me being utterly indecisive.
Who shot first?
Deep in my heart I want Han to have shot first. But I think it is more fun for it to be a never ending murder mystery game of Clue. To bad Lucas opened up that manilla envelope and tell us all it was Mr. Green in the Billiards Room with the Pistol.

Geek guys who are social are sexy to me. I want some one who wants to go out and do nerdy things, like costume parties, movie premieres, cons, star/ufo
gazing. Also any guy who can teach me ANY new geeky thing makes me smile.

Our September Gamette of the Month by far needs not much of an introduction, she should very well be introducing us. We met her at several of the Dallas Comic Cons this year and it was no hurdle for her to charm the BG Crew. If you don’t see her doing some cosplay around Texas, you may very well find her storming comic shops loading up on her favorite books or planning her next Dr. Sketchy’s show. Enid Coleslaw [if you don't know who that is, you lose this round]. She’s just trying to figure herself out and find her place in the world. Sadly she paves and leaves a path of heartache for herself and just about anyone who cares for her. Supes has a lil heartache and struggles with his family and heritage on a different scale. Enid had and has the strength to keep family in the heart but seek out the world and it’s meaning. Clark is pretty predictable, and no matter what, he’ll will always run home.

Welcome XFX Girl 2.0 and Gamette Rika
We’re not sure how your Valentine’s Day went but we can say with some certainty that however it went, Rika Stead’s shoot is just the pick-me-up you might need to chase away the last of that post V-day depression you’re fighting.
Rika’s been writing for us for a while now (you can catch her posts here) and now we’re fortunate enough to have her join the lovely ranks of the Gamettes. And if you haven’t been paying attention, Rika recently won the XFX Girl 2.0 contest and will spend the coming year serving as their spokesmodel.
We’ve welcomed Rika with open arms as a writer and now as a Gamette and we’re sure you loyal readers will do the same. Be on the lookout for more from this very talented lady on this very site!

Do you have any future aspirations to work in the gaming industry? And if so, what would you like your job to be?:
Are they accepting apps for the next Olivia Munn? 
There are a lot of gaming industry jobs I’d like to have and think I’d enjoy. In an absolutely ideal fantasy situation where i could pick whatever I want, I think I’d like to do concept art or character design. Or I’d love to continue on in the game journalism vein full time eventually.
Name the best game you’ve played and what made it so unbelievably awesome.:
Legend of Dragoon. The way it looked was awesome for the time, and I liked its stylization. The storyline was too intense for most novels and the ideas presented therein impacted the way I viewed things. The characters were well developed and I got attached to many of them and the gameplay appealed to me too- I liked its traditional RPG style but the combat system (involving targeted button presses to make bigger attacks) was a nice introduction of player skill without being distracting from the rest of the game. And I love the theme song from it.
If you were a video game, what genre would you fall under and why?:
I’d be an RPG with an epic storyline, and probably a surprising twist of another genre, because I’m pretty literary- always into stories and metaphors and words, but then I have some eclectic characteristics thrown in too.

Just when you thought Halloween was over and you could put your fears of an impending zombie attack to rest, the gang here at Busy Gamer gives you Jessica V., our latest Gamette, and a photo recap of her rooftop adventures.
Fortunately, Jessica was ready for the zombies and prevailed against the odds to make sure the rest of us could eat our candy stolen from unsuspecting Trick or Treaters in peace… At least, that’s how the Reckon Crew got their candy. Maybe the rest of you got it another way.

What is your favorite guilty geeky pleasure?
My fav geeky guilty pleasure? I don’t think I feel guilty about any of my geeky pleasures!
What is your favorite game?
Oh there are so many! The God of War series, Resident Evil 4, Double Dragon. I guess if I had to pick one game to play forever though, it would be Final Fantasy VII. That game has every game and element in it already. RPG, racing, snowboarding, RTS water, outer space, a wild storyline and so much more!

Roulette Wheel - Smash!
My spidey senses tell me yes, FINALLY. After a few grueling years of waiting, and taking in rumors, I was almost sure that we would NEVER see a sequel to one of my all time favorite titles, Capcom’s “Dead Rising”. An acquaintance at my local Gamestop informed me of a lawsuit initiated by George A. Romero against Capcom, claiming that the game’s setting and theme were copied from his famous horror film “Dawn of the Dead”. Now, I’m a huge fan of his films but lately, the new titles have sort of lost their charm such as Diary of the Dead. It’s okay to watch maybe once, but that’s all. This suit kind of sounded to me like he was running out of funds. I could in a rather large way see the similarity between the game and the film. However, in doing some research on 1up.com, I was pleased to see that U.S. Magistrate Judge Richard Seeborg “has not identified any similarity between Dead Rising and any protected element of Dawn of the Dead”. He goes on to explain that the few similarities the company has alleged are driven by the wholly unprotectable concept of humans battling zombies in a mall.
Months before performing the research, my source did inform me that there was a possibility of the game continuing under a different developer. I recently checked around to see how the game was coming, or if it was at all, and saw that IGN.com reported that Chris Kramer, director of public relations of Capcom Entertainment states, “There has been no official announcement of a sequel to Dead Rising, any rumors of an official announcement are erroneous”. When questioned if there would be a sequel at all, he continued to state that they have made no announcements of one…sounds fishy to me! I did some more snooping around and BADABING! DeadRising2.net!
There was a post in February stating that Capcom did in fact officially confirm that DR2 will arrive for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. There are screenshots and trailers leaked, and in taking a look at the shots, not much is different. Which I’m relieved to see as the game IS in fact being released under a different developer by the name of Blue Castle Games, the same company to bring us “The Bigs” and “MLB 2008″. Deadrising.net states that much like the first game, “Players will once again slaughter their way through thousands upon thousands of the living dead, using a plethora of weapons to butcher them. This time, however, instead of battling zombies in a shopping mall like the original Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 takes place in a Las Vegas-inspired city loaded with casinos and flesh eating blackjack dealers and zombified showgirls”. Showgirls! Hooray for zombie smut once again! Capcom states that DR2 will take the franchise to a “new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, and a chance to kill them in fun ways in the gaming paradise of Fortune City”.

Ciji on WCG:Ultimate Gamer, tonight on Sci Fi Channel
When the Reckon Crew first heard about a new reality series on the Sci-Fi channel, there was a collective groan among us as we imagined another Ghost Hunters or a new Who wants to be a Super Hero with a completely mad Stan Lee. Then we heard the title of the new show, Ultimate Gamer, and that peaked our interest. Then Starslay3r told us she was going to be on it. We were hooked.
Admittedly, we tend to worry a bit when we don’t hear from a friend so when Starslay3r disappeared for a month, we thought something might have happened. But coming to find out that one of our Gamettes will be appearing on a show featuring some of the toughest video game competitors out there playing against one another on a reality show, well, we were thrilled for her to say the least. And then the preview clips came out…
Now many of you might think that watching a show about gaming where the competitors pummel one another on Soul Calibur IV might sound dull but if you haven’t heard, that’s not all it’s about. Once the participants compete on, say, Halo 3, they then go out and play paintball against one another. Or if it’s a racing game, they actually get in real cars to see who can maneuver at high speed through an obstacle course. It’s not just about proving who’s the best at a game… It’s about proving you can do it outside of a video game. At the very least, there’s the potential for hilarity when we see the looks on the players’ faces when the “real life” challenges are announced.
When we asked Starslay3r about her experiences on WCG Ultimate Gamer, she had the following to say:
“I’m not really allowed to say much. I can say that it was, the most intense and most awesome gaming experience I’ve ever had. The show definitely put my gaming skills to the ultimate test and if I could do it all over again, I would do it in a heartbeat.”
