Guitar Zero continued
St. Tim: Tell me about the song you just did. You had
a pretty interesting choice, you played against Josh
and you played DragonForce. Josh told me that you
guys decided to play on the “hard” level. How did that
happen?

Sarah: Actually I just asked him if he wanted to do
hard and I’m always up for a challenge. Yeah, it was
close!
Sarah - Guitar Zero contestant
St. Tim: That kind of round was something that should have been for the championship
rounds, the way the crowd was getting involved with you guys was really incredible. I wish
we could have seen you go on.
Sarah: Oh yeah, my favorite hobby is gaming, everything to do with gaming whether it’s a
contest or a convention. I want to go to E3, you know?
St. Tim: Right! How long have you been gaming?
Sarah: I’ve been gaming my whole life, since I was 3 years old.
St. Tim: And how old are you now?
Sarah: I am 20.
St. Tim: Besides Guitar Hero, what’s your favorite game of all time?
Sarah: Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy 11… I play 11 online.
St. Tim: How long have you been playing Guitar Hero?
Sarah: About a year now since the second one came out I was interested in it.
St. Tim: Anything else you would like to add?
Sarah: More power to female gamers. I want more girls to get out there. Normally in things
like this I am the only female, or one of the only ones, and I want to reach out to all girls
and say “Come Play!”
Unfortunately both Sarah and our other female competitor of the night, Susie Q.,
ran into some pretty tough competitors in the first round. Susie faced off against
Chuck in the very first round of the night to lead off the competition and while
Susie also didn’t make it to the second round, her efforts were no less notable
than Sarah’s.

There were four rounds of competition total and the final contestants were
given a short break to rest up for the last round of the night. Once again Busy
Gamer’s St. Tim took the time to interview the finalists, Bryan and Taylor.
St. Tim: You guys are the two finalists, did you think you would make
it this far when you signed up?
Taylor: Probably. I guess.
Bryan: I didn’t.
St. Tim: Have you guys picked a song for the Champion round?
Finalists: Yup… Song is picked… Dragonforce.
St. Tim: Dragonforce on Hard. We had an awesome Dragonforce round earlier it totally
brought down the house.
Taylor: Yeah, Sarah could beat me easy.
St. Tim: Interesting, you beat the guy who beat her…
Taylor: Yeah
St. Tim: How long have you been playing Guitar Hero?
Bryan: 3 months maybe?
St. Tim: Like the whole thing?
Bryan: The whole thing. Every one of them.
Taylor: Really?
Bryan: Yeah.
St. Tim: (to Taylor) And you?
Taylor: Maybe a year, I started on Guitar Hero 2
St. Tim: You guys are both late entries, right?
Finalists: Yeah
St. Tim: I overheard they almost didn’t let you play.
Bryan: It wasn’t my age, it was because I was a walk in, the list was
full, but people didn’t show up.
St. Tim: So it actually helped both you guys out, now you are in the finalists round I guess
the Champs don’t care about being punctual…
Everyone: *laughs*
St. Tim: Did you guys know what the prize was or did you just want to do it?
Taylor: I just wanted to do it.
Bryan: I just heard it on the radio and wanted to do it.
Wild and crazy Busy Gamer Reckon Crew
And when Bryan and Taylor took the floor for the last round, it was impressive to
say the least. Both gave it their all but the night saw Bryan as the victor and
crowned as the winner of the First Annual Busy Gamer Guitar Zero tournament.
With the last hurrahs cheered and the night quickly drawing to an end, the Busy
Gamer crew packed up their gear and thanked our host for the evening, Homer
Escalante. Without Homer’s help or his gracious hosting of the event at the
Riverside Multiplex, this tournament would never have gotten off the ground.

Of no less importance was our sponsor, local Gamecrazy, without whom we
could not have made this happen. Ben and Jeff of Gamecrazy were kind
enough to put up the first prize for the contest as well as providing the system,
controllers, and game used for the competition.

We’d also like to thank DJ Russell of 100.9 KBAR for his assistance in getting
the word out to the local gamers about the event. Without him, I imagine there
wouldn’t have been nearly as many people there for the competition.
