Alternately, we could see Surface in
more entertainment focused industries
such as restaurants. Touch screen
menus that allowed you to see what a
dish looked like before placing an order
or pull up more details about the
ingredients used in a particular dish
might seem a dull application of
Surface's capabilities but coupled with
the device’s ability to entertain, perhaps
with a puzzle or trivia game while you
wait for your order…  Well, these are
the sort of things that would make me
want to eat out more often.
The concept behind the device could see multiple real world applications
beyond retail as well. The interface could allow home users to merely place a
multimedia device on the Surface to access files, digital photos or videos, or
even music that could then be manipulated however the user desired. A Surface
replacing a coffee table could serve as a media center, an impromptu photo
album, or even a place to let the kids draw pictures.
While it is still only in its beta phase, it’s
easy to see why Surface is creating
such a buzz in the tech world. There’s a
world of possibilities here… lying just
beneath the Surface.
