"Wide spread ban targets today’s busy gamer"
by AlexandraMD

If you’re a hard working adult, parent, or student who enjoys today’s MMOs
but have no time to grind to level 70, Blizzard’s recent actions scream
“Your S.O.L.”

Earlier this week Blizzard banned thousands of accounts in a matter of
days. Buying, selling, trading, and even giving away your account results
in banning without a second chance. Instead of innocent until proven
guilty you’re simply guilty. They even use their godly powers and ban any
account associate with your credit card if you chose the monthly billing
option. That’s not accounting for the gamers who lost their accounts
using game time cards.

Those who haven’t been banned have their accounts on a temporary
lockdown until an I.D that has been notarized is faxed in and approved.
Even if they get that information to Blizzard it will take time for the hold to
be taken off, leaving the account dead until they deem fit.

A majority of gamers believe that buying or trading an account is cheating,
giving other players an unfair advantage. Although, what if you’re a casual
player as opposed to a hard core player? Not every gamer has the luxury
of being able to play eight or more hours a day. Casual gamers want to
experience the end game fun without spending a massive amount of time
away from reality and their responsibilities.

It’s well known that trading an account is a violation of the terms of
service. Even if you decide to give your account away it will result in a ban.
Some will argue that it’s not worth the ban and definitely not worth losing
their other accounts that had nothing to due with the violation. The
customer is still paying their monthly dues and Blizzard is still generating
an income.

Blizzard has yet to release a statement on why the harsh crack down this
week, but few have their theories.

Fashion victim's cell phones targeted by Armani & Samsung

MILAN (Reuters) - Italian designer Giorgio Armani has joined forces with
Samsung Electronics to design a television and a mobile phone, along with
other consumer electronics, the companies said on Sunday.

Armani, one of Italy's leading fashion designers, will unveil a mobile phone
model on September 24 at his show for Giorgio Armani womenswear for
spring and summer 2008, joining several other designers who have already
tapped this market.

The Armani-Samsung phone will be the size of a credit card and 10.5
millimeters thick, the companies said in a statement.

Designers Dolce & Gabbana have teamed up with Motorola for a
gold-colored version of the RAZR mobile phone model and Prada has
developed a phone with South Korea's LG Electronics.

Armani said the liquid crystal display (LCD) television that it develops with
Samsung will be unveiled in January 2008. Home electronics are still
unusual territory for fashion designers, although several have launched
interior design collections.

Luxury goods segments are benefiting from a surge in the wealthy alongside
fast economic growth in countries such as China, India and Russia, while
Middle East markets have strengthened as a boom in commodity prices
increases incomes.

"We make as much of a personal statement with the mobile phones that we
carry or the televisions that we have in our living rooms as we do with the
shoes and bags we wear or the furnishings we choose," Armani said in the
statement.

No financial details were disclosed.

Resident Evil 3 Review
by Grits

I went to see Resident Evil 3: Extinction last night.  I entered the theatre with
equal parts excitement and trepidation.  You see, I'm a long time fan of the
video games and both of the previous movies had done a fine job of
capturing the feel of Raccoon City and the characters involved in the series.  I
had enjoyed both of the previous entries, favoring Apocalypse over the
original but I was afraid that stepping away from the series' long time setting
might be more than the movie could survive.

Fortunately, I was wrong.  Most critics will likely pan this movie, especially if
they've never played the video game series.  I, on the other hand, felt that the
atmosphere that had me sitting on the edge of my seat and jumping at
shadows and background noises when I played any of the titles was well
captured and well demonstrated in the third movie installment.

Many people who didn't play the video game series will feel the characters
are under developed or not given enough back story.  The Claire Redfield
character for instance (played by the very lovely Ali Larter of Heroes fame)
seemed to be added more for the sake of finally having her present in one of
the movies, a tip of the hat to the fans of the game.  Those of us who played
the series know her back story from the games but for those poor souls who
haven't experienced the video game are likely to wonder why she was
present at all.

In a world that lets movies adapted from video games be produced and
directed by the horrid Uwe Boll (don't know who he is? Look him up on
imdb.com, you'll see very quickly why I detest the man), this movie is a good
example of what should be done to maintain the feel of the games being
portrayed.

Bottom line is if you like zombie flicks and you liked any of the Resident Evil
games, you'll get your money's worth if you see this in the theatre.

Halo 3 release: Gamers party the night away

Computer game fans greeted the release of Microsoft's Halo 3 with all-night
parties, after the software giant released the video game at midnight at more
than 10 000 shops around the United States.

Microsoft had predicted that the launch would be the biggest entertainment
pay day in history. Even before stores opened for the late-night launch
Microsoft had one million pre-orders in hand for the $60 (about R400) game
and an estimated sales figure of about $150-million.

Microsoft hopes the game will boost demand for its Xbox 360 console in its
battle for market share with rivals Sony and Nintendo in the $30-billion a year
video game industry. By the end of the week the game will be on sale in 37
countries.

The biggest launch event was in New York, where hundreds of fans waited
outside an electronics store on Fifth Avenue dressed as characters from the
alien-fighting game. They were treated to serenades from hit rapper Ludacris
and to caffeine-fuelled soft drinks specially concocted for the launch by
Microsoft's promotional partners.

Those drinks were needed by the many fans who planned to play their new
games through the night and to call in sick at work the next day. The climax
came a few minutes before midnight when a convoy of game characters
rolled up on vehicles made to appear like those in the game to deliver copies
for the first lucky customers.

At an electronics store near Microsoft's Seattle headquarters, company
founder Bill Gates was on hand to sell and autograph a copy of the game for
the first fan in a line of 500.

Land surveyor David N was one of those who disrupted his sleep patterns for
an all-night Halo 3 session and pronounced himself highly satisfied with the
game early Tuesday morning.

"It was exhilarating, the best game I've ever played," said the 26-year-old, who
battled his way through the night with four friends. He planned to take the day
off work in a move that was expected to be followed by gamers throughout
the US, according to USA Today.
