By Callie Zanandrie Violent video games are nothing new. Justin Kurtz said, "In most games they say violence and maybe it's shooting, but this one is going to have some hands on killing." But, a new video game, Manhunt 2, is taking gaming into the next realm. Kurtz said, "You can expect murders, bags over the head, suffocation. It's going to be a heightened sense of violence."
Players take on the role of a psychiatric escapee who goes on a murderous rampage. Maybe not a big deal to some gamers, Casey Roberts said, "I think it would be fun."
But, on the Wii, players physically make killing motions with the controllers. Slashing for stabs and lifting to strangle rather than simply pushing buttons.
Cory Weisman and Casey Roberts love playing video games they play about five hours a day. Casey Roberts said, "I've been playing since I was in kindergarten, so it's just addicting."
So, what do these gamers think about taking on the hands of a killer?
Casey Roberts told CBS 2 Eyewitness News, "It's just a video game. I wouldn't take it further than that."
Cory Weisman said, "Not really because I'm just using remotes and I am strangling air."
But, as a parent Kurtz feels differently, "I'm not about to let them go and chop people's heads off," Kurtz said.
Manhunt 2 is rated "M" for mature which means stores won't sell the game to customers under 17, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. But, even with the rating Kurtz wonders if all the violence is really necessary. Kurtz said, "There's no reason to really put a knife in your hand or go through the motions of chopping someone's head off."
Manhunt 2 is released on Halloween.
