GAMER GEEK TATTOOS! How dedicated are you to your gaming subculture?

Do you play so much that your game characters get under your skin? Well
these video junkies apparently like to show it! I don't think you can get any
more enamored with your favorite Blood Elf Priest than by getting her
slammed up into your epidermis for life! Well atleast hope that your life mate
understands that your rendition of Lara Croft stenciled up and down your
inner thigh doesnt look nearly as good as she does when she totes a couple
of .45s and a backpack. YEAH RIGHT!

Halo 3's first-day US haul = $170M
Microsoft announces that its
360-exclusive shooter is now "the
biggest entertainment launch in
[American] history" following a banner
24 hours at retail.
By Tor Thorsen

Thought the Halo 3 hype onslaught was over? Think again. After promising
that the Xbox 360 exclusive's first-day launch would be huge, the software
giant wasted little time in saying so. Today, the company announced that by
its estimates, first-day sales of Halo 3 totaled $170 million in the US alone,
$45 million more than Halo 2's 2004 debut.

The staggering figure presumably came from Microsoft's internal estimates,
as it did not name a source for the data. Microsoft reps also had not clarified
whether or not the figure was solely at physical retail stores or also included
sales of the game from online retailers. "We only know the number is $170
million," said a rep.

If proven accurate when the NPD Group releases its sales figures next
month, the number would give Halo 3 the honor of having generated more
money in 24 hours than any other American entertainment property ever. The
$170 million haul would also best Spider-Man 3's $151 million domestic
theatrical opening weekend and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'
first-day US sales of an estimated 8.3 million copies at a range of price
points. (At the book's full hardcover price of $34.95, that number would have
generated $290 million.)

Not so shockingly, Microsoft executives were pleased with Halo 3's
performance. Throwing modesty to the wind, Microsoft Game Studios
corporate vice president Shane Kim proclaimed, "Not only is Halo 3 setting
sales records, it's also redefining entertainment. Within the first 20 hours
alone, we've seen more than a million Xbox Live members come online to
play Halo 3--that makes September 25 the most active Xbox Live gaming day
in history."

Temporary solution for Battle Ground bug issued by Blizzard
by Charles D.

A lot of people have been on the unfortunate receiving end of a recent bug
that has been plaguing MMORPG players in Blizzard's World of Warcraft. The
MMORPG company giant has been getting a lot of flak lately due to the steps
they should be taking to fix the notorious Battle Grounds bug so many PvP
savvy players have been complaining about.

However, there may just be a small silver lining to this annoying little
problem. While there hasn't been any official word on when the bug will be
fixed, Blizzard poster Aeus has listed some easy steps on how to deal with
the issue in the meantime:

We are aware that some players might currently be getting stuck at the end
of combat in the Battle Grounds. A solution is being worked on and we will
let you know when we have more information. Until a fix is made available
there are two possible workarounds:

1. Close the client and restart the game.

2. Do /afk at the end of the BG; this has proven to work for some players as
well.

Knowing how bugs just pop up everywhere in any new gaming patch, we'll
all just have to sit tight and be a little patient until the boys at Blizzard find a
more permanent solution to this problem.

LORD BRITISH IN SPACE!
Garriott to take Space Adventure
Gamespot News

Richard Garriott, creator of the widely acclaimed fantasy role-playing realm of
Ultima, light-jumped into the future with his first massively multiplayer online
game project, Tabula Rasa. With his sci-fi MMOG ticking off its last few
checks before launching into cyberspace on October 16, Lord British is
planning to get his own first-hand look at the inspiration for his latest
creation.

Space Adventures Inc., a privately owned space-exploration company,
announced today that it would be rocketing the acclaimed game designer
out of this world in October 2008. Garriott, the son of former NASA astronaut
Owen Garriott, plans to dedicate his journey to the International Space
Station to scientific study.

"It is my goal to devote a significant amount of my time aboard the space
station to science, engineering, and educational projects... We need to be
adventurous in mind and stimulate our intellects to answer today's most
daunting scientific questions and to invent tomorrow's technological
marvels," he said.

Garriott is the sixth space tourist to fly with Space Adventures. The first,
American businessman Dennis Tito, secured a seat to the final frontier for a
reported $20 million in 2001. Garriott is seeking corporate sponsorship for
his expedition.

Halo 3 Discs Arrive
" Pre-Scratched "
Consumerist.com
Eager fans cracked open the hot new video game Halo 3, only to discover
that their game discs were already scratched. It seems in their midst of
preparing for a global launch with mondo cross-promotion, Microsoft forgot
to check they didn't use the DVD holders with the defective nubs.

The weak nubs allowed the DVDs to float around and get all scraped.

Reader Mr. Chip Livejournals that 3 out the 4 he opened in Walmart, which
were of the fancy metal tin "collector's edition" variety, were scratched upon
opening. That's $70 for a game that's already scratched. PC World says the
scratches are cosmetic and you can still play the game just fine, but wants to
buy a "new" scratched video game?

If your Halo 3 is scratched, you can get it swapped out for a shiny new one
under the Xbox disc replacement program.

Gamers in Japan
prefer playing with
their Wii over their PS3

TOKYO (Reuters) - Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii videogame console outsold Sony
Corp's  PlayStation 3 by more than four to one in Japan in April-September,
game magazine publisher Enterbrain said on Monday.

Nintendo sold about 1.6 million units of the Wii over 26 weeks through
September 23 in its home market, compared with 385,492 units of the PS3
sold, Enterbrain said.

The Wii features a motion-sensing controller that lets users direct on-screen
action by swinging it like a racket or sword, helping widen the machine's
appeal.  Sony's PS3 suffered a slow start since its launch last November
due to its high price and scarcity of strong software titles.

New killer game 'Manhunt 2' cranks
up the violence with a capital Vii
By Callie Zanandrie
Violent video games are nothing new. Justin Kurtz said, "In most games they
say violence and maybe it's shooting, but this one is going to have some
hands on killing." But, a new video game, Manhunt 2, is taking gaming into
the next realm. Kurtz said, "You can expect murders, bags over the head,
suffocation. It's going to be a heightened sense of violence."

Players take on the role of a psychiatric escapee who goes on a murderous
rampage.  Maybe not a big deal to some gamers, Casey Roberts said, "I
think it would be fun."

But, on the Wii, players physically make killing motions with the controllers.
Slashing for stabs and lifting to strangle rather than simply pushing buttons.

Cory Weisman and Casey Roberts love playing video games they play about
five hours a day.  Casey Roberts said, "I've been playing since I was in
kindergarten, so it's just addicting."

So, what do these gamers think about taking on the hands of a killer?

Casey Roberts told CBS 2 Eyewitness News, "It's just a video game. I
wouldn't take it further than that."

Cory Weisman said, "Not really because I'm just using remotes and I am
strangling air."

But, as a parent Kurtz feels differently, "I'm not about to let them go and chop
people's heads off," Kurtz said.

Manhunt 2 is rated "M" for mature which means stores won't sell the game to
customers under 17, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.  But,
even with the rating Kurtz wonders if all the violence is really necessary.
Kurtz said, "There's no reason to really put a knife in your hand or go through
the motions of chopping someone's head off."

Manhunt 2 is released on Halloween.
