t's time to take a stand! A
stand for truth, justice and an
equal opportunity for
independent filmmakers and
film goers in this country! The
majority of people at these
fests have been treated like
subterranean humanoids.
Why? Because they didn't
have a plastic VIP badge in
their possession to flash to
get into screenings,
Hollywood connections to get
them into the parties, or have
a ton of money to pay to
submit their film to a biased
selection committee.
The infamous Troma Films ("Toxic Avenger", "Poulytrygeist") has decided
enough is enough. Troma will fight fire with fire and launch the 9th Annual
TromaDance Film Fest in January in Salt Lake City, UT.

TromaDance is the first film festival wholeheartedly devoted to filmmakers and
fans. Unlike every other film festival, TromaDance does not charge filmmakers
to submit their films. Entrance to all screenings is free and open to the public.
Also, there are no VIP reservations or preferential treatment regarding films,
panels, or parties of any kind given. The organizers of TromaDance believe
films are meant to be seen, especially when it comes to new filmmakers. Art -
in all its forms - is for the people!

TromaDance features a range of films made independently, usually without big
stars, big money and far removed from the Hollywood studio system. The
official selections of TromaDance have been made with nothing more than
passion, courage, integrity, and raw talent.

Everyone at TromaDance is treated as an equal. The elite and the celebrated
are treated no better or worse than the experimental filmmaker or the random
moviegoer off the street. Admittance to all screenings, panels, parties, and
events is strictly on a first come, first served basis. If there are any VIPs at
TromaDance, they are the filmmakers whose blood, sweat, and hard work are
on the screen.

TromaDance is an opportunity for everyone who's ever picked up a camera to
have their work seen without the compromises required by elitist cartel
interference. TromaDance is proud to be the first and only film festival of the
people, for the people, and by the people.

JANUARY 10, 2008
A few questions begin to arise as the story unfolds:
Did Spiderman ever unmask? Did MJ and Peter come close to dating? Does
Peter still work at the Bugle or did he work for Iron Man? What the deuce is
going on here? Harry Osborn is alive? Peter lives with Aunt May? How old is
this guy? So he goes from being the ultra cool hero back to being a schmuck
living at home with no girlfriend? Wow, way to put Spidey back at square one.
I'm paying 4 bucks a book for this?

Since when did Spiderman punk out and make deals with devils anyway?

New Captain America debuts soon.

The Hulk is Red.

Stop this ride...please.
SONY PULLS OUT THE FAT ONE! NO MORE SOUP FOR YOU!
Sony to axe original PlayStation
3 models in Japan
TOKYO (AFP) - Sony Corp. said Thursday that it
will stop selling the two original PlayStation 3
models in Japan and focus on the new
slimmed down version amid fierce
competition from rival Nintendo Co.
Sony's game unit said it would end shipments of PlayStation 3s with 20- and
60-gigabyte hard disk drives this month in its domestic market.

Sony is pinning its hopes on the cheaper PS3 with a 40-GB hard disk drive that
was introduced in Japan in November last year in an attempt to better compete
with Nintendo's more affordable Wii video game console.

Unlike the two original versions, which were launched in November 2006, the
newest PS3 model does not play games designed for the PlayStation 2, has
two high-speed USB ports instead of four and has no super audio CD system.

It was introduced with a price tag of 39,980 yen (364 dollars), compared with a
reduced price of 44,980 yen for the standard 20-GB hard disk drive PS3. It is
still costlier than the Wii, which retails for 25,000 yen.

The company will "vigorously promote the expansion of the PS3 platform by
further concentrating on the 40GB hard disk drive model," Sony Computer
Entertainment said in a statement.

The move comes as rival Nintendo continues to enjoy strong demand for the
Wii, known for its motion-sensitive controller, outselling the PS3 three-fold in its
domestic market last year, according to a recent survey.

While Sony put the emphasis on chip power and ultra-realistic graphics for the
latest addition to the PlayStation series, Nintendo opted to develop a cheaper,
easy-to-use console that would appeal to a wider audience.

Reader's Digest Version:
Aunt May is shot, Peter blames himself.
Peter makes a bargain with Mephisto the
Devil. The bargain is MJ and Peter never
got married. (Hey, the Devil can do that).
Peter and MJ agree to this reluctantly and
Mephisto then torments them by showing
them the daughter they would have had,
etc., etc.
Spiderman's "One More Day"
storyline wrapped up, and I
don't know how to take it.

KA CHING!
GameStop holiday sales surge
SONY PULLS OUT THE FAT ONE! NO MORE SOUP FOR YOU!
NEW YORK (Reuters) - GameStop Corp (GME.N), the largest U.S. video game
retailer, raised its quarterly earnings estimate on Thursday after holiday
season sales rose sharply on blockbuster games like "Guitar Hero."

But shares of GameStop fell 6 percent even after the announcement as
analysts, while bullish on the stock, cited concerns that video game sales
could not maintain their momentum over the short term.

"First of all, the numbers were lights out," said Mike Hickey, an analyst with
Janco Partners Inc. "But the concern is that their same-store sales guidance
was raised to 15.5 percent to 16.5 percent, which is measurably below the 20
percent they just produced for the holiday period."

He added: "The difference last year was 'World of Warcraft,' which sold 850,000
plus units in January and that creates a difficult comparison for them this year."

"But I will say this is a conservative management team, and we continue to like
the name. They appear to be doing all the right things."

GameStop's comparable store sales for the holiday period increased 20
percent, while total store sales for the period rose 34.7 percent, it said.

Given the rise, the retailer increased its fiscal fourth quarter 2007
comparable-store sales estimate from a range of 7 percent to 9 percent to a
range of 15.5 percent to 16.5 percent.

GameStop also boosted its fourth-quarter diluted earnings per share estimate
to a range of $1.09 to $1.10. Full-year earnings per diluted share are now
estimated to be in a range of $1.75 to $1.76, or 13 cents per share higher than
guidance issued in November.

Another analyst, Arvind Bhatia of Sterne Agee, reiterated his buy rating on the
stock and said the pullback marked a ripe time to buy shares.

"We think even though the stock is down today on the 'sell on news
phenomenon,' we were fundamentally more impressed after the release than
before the release," Bhatia said.

"Recently, the stock hasn't done well on the day of announcements, but has
subsequently done better as people take a step back and see it's still a bright
spot out there in consumerland," he added.

GameStop listed the top five video games sold during the holiday period as
Activision Inc's (ATVI.O) "Guitar Hero III," and "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,"
Ubisoft's (UBIP.PA) "Assassin's Creed," Electronic Arts' (ERTS.O) "Rock Band."
and Nintendo's (7974.OS) "Super Mario Galaxy."

Shares of the company were down $3.31 at $51.80 on the New York Stock
Exchange.

HOW MANY POINTS IS

Hasbro Tries To Shut Down
Scrabulous
Reuters//Tech Crunch
"Is Hasbro just a stupid Potato Head? Or is this a brilliant game of Stratego?”
That’s the big question Fortune’s Josh Quittner asks as he reports that Hasbro,
the toy company that owns Scrabble, is trying to shut down Scrabulous,
one of the most popular Facebook apps. Scrabulous lets you play an online
version of Scrabble with your Facebook friends. The app boasts 569,000 daily
active user, ranking it No. 9 right after Slide’s SuperPoke, No. 8, and ahead of
iLike, No. 10.

Scrabulous co-founder Jayant Agarwalla, 21, confirms that Hasbro “sent a
notice to Facebook about two weeks ago. The lawyers are working on it.”
Quittner suggests that someone start a Facebook group to save Scrabulous,
but we all know how much good that is likely to do.

Perpetual evacuates Star
Trek MMOG?
Gamespot.com
What we heard: The past several months have seen Perpetual Entertainment
plummet into nothing short of an accelerating nosedive. In October, the San
Francisco-based developer placed on indefinite hold its Sony Online
Entertainment-backed MMOG Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising to redeploy
efforts to its higher-profile Star Trek Online game.

Shortly thereafter, a Securities and Exchange Commission filing revealed the
developer had liquidated its assets, and that it had been purchased by an
unnamed media company. Few details on the transaction surfaced, but
conflicting reports indicated that Perpetual would be turning the Star Trek
MMOG into a more casual-friendly title. While the news could have signaled a
turnaround for the ailing developer, Perpetual's problems proved to be ongoing,
as the developer was sued in December by its public relations firm Kohnke
Communications for, among other charges, breach of contract, fraudulent
transfer, and fraud.

Perpetual's string of ill fortune may now be extending into 2008. Citing "multiple
sources at the San Francisco-based developer," WarCry is reporting today that
the Perpetual is no longer developing Star Trek Online. While the report again
raises doubts over the future of a Star Trek-themed MMOG, WarCry notes that
the license and content of the game have passed to "another Bay Area
development studio," though Perpetual's code has not.

The report goes on to say that Perpetual will continue to operate under its P2
Entertainment label, bolstered most notably the Perpetual Platform. In July,
Mass Effect creators BioWare said that it would be using the Perpetual Platform
in its first yet-to-be-named sci-fi MMOG. Plotting a course similar to Majesco, P2
Entertainment will reportedly refocus its efforts on the casual market and
maintaining its middleware technology.

The official story: Perpetual had not responded to request for comment as of
press time. Quite understandably, Kohnke also had nothing to say on the issue.

Bogus or not bogus?: Judging from Perpetual's current freefall, it's looking not
bogus that the developer has beamed off the Star Trek MMOG. Star Trek fans
need not worry, though, because a property as coveted and open-ended as
Gene Roddenberry's classic will undoubtedly receive the MMOG treatment. The
question now, as it has always been, is when.

HE's NO GOOD TO US DEAD!
Star Wars TV Show: Boba Fett Confirmed
Producer says Fett is "instrumental" to the live
action series.
ign.com/Eric Goldman
Like most projects developed under the Star
Wars name, hard facts about the plotline for the
upcoming Star Wars live-action TV series have
been hard to come by. However, in a new
interview with the Star Wars Insider magazine,
producer Rick McCallum reveals one big detail:
Boba Fett will be a part of the series.
It had already been revealed that the show will take place within the 20 year gap
in-between Revenge of the Sith and the original Star Wars (A New Hope), but
as to what characters would be featured in it, all George Lucas had said was
that it would not star any of the main characters from the films. However, as it
had been revealed that it could feature peripheral characters from the film
series, many fans had speculated that the ever-popular Boba Fett would be a
prime candidate. Then last year, the first (and to this point only) promotional
image from the series, shown at Toy Fair, displayed Fett's iconic helmet, which
of course only fueled rumors he would be on the show.

McCallum clears up the rumors, telling Star Wars insider "The series will be
about brand new characters, a group of people we haven't seen yet, except
Boba Fett, who will be an instrumental part of it. The series will also showcase
other bounty hunters."

No disintegrations?McCallum says the series is about "what happens to an
empire. It's a much darker, much more character-based thing. It's not as
plot-driven [as the movies]." McCallum notes that the challenge they're facing at
Lucasfilm is making the show "look like a feature on a television budget, with
all new characters, new environments, new planets, and trying to keep the
storyline alive for a lot of people."

Also revealed in the interview is that four artists have been working on designs
for the show, including Erik Tiemens, who worked on Attack of the Clones and
Revenge of the Sith. McCallum also says "We have two great writers from
England, one from Australia, and three from the United States," but doesn't
name who they are. A planned writers' meeting in November had to be
scrapped due to the writers' strike but McCallum says that when it does occur it
will be "in order to develop the 'bible' for the characters, in other words who they
are and where they're going to go, along with some of the story ideas. We're
going to try and hash out the first three or four episodes."

McCallum says they hope to have the first scripts by February, but with no idea
when the writers' strike will end, that seems highly questionable. However, it's
worth noting that Lucasfilm is said to be considering making an independent
deal with the Writers Guild of America in the same manner that David
Letterman's Worldwide Pants, United Artists and The Weinstein Company have
all done. If that occurs, it would almost certainly allow scripts to progress on
Star Wars, even if the strike continues. McCallum tells Star Wars Insider they
hope to be shooting by the end of 2008 or early in 2009. The live-action series
is expected to premiere by the end of 2009, following this fall's debut of the new
animated Clone Wars series.

The Boba Fett confirmation will now of course lead to the next round of
speculation: Who will play him? An actor new to the role or someone we've
seen before? Considering the series spans 20 years -- and no one knows if
stories will be told chronologically, or leap back and forward in time-- it's
certainly possible for either Daniel Logan (Attack of the Clones' young Boba) or
Temuera Morrison (Jango Fett) to play the character, or in fact for both of them
to, if the show follows the character through two different periods in his life, a la
George Lucas' Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.
